(Kunming, May 15th) Practice makes perfect. For all players participating in the qualifying tournament, that would be the ‘golden rule’.Monday, practice round, last chance to get yourself back on the track. No matter how far you’ve been flew, how tough you’ve been suffered from the jetleg, this is the moment. 68 golfers from 15 countries gather here together, and they are taking it seriously.
2017 China Tour opens three Q-schools, including one for mainland China players (Dunnes Golf Course, April 17th – 20th) and two for players from all over the world and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan ( KunmingOCT Wind Valley Club). 15 full exemption cards have been delivered, and 17 conditional cards have been sent out ( 9 of them are from the Mainland ChinaQ-school, 8 are from the Venue 2 International Qualifying Tournament). This week,15 full cards will be secured, as usual.
Taking a glance at the player list, you’ll be finding out that players from Australia, USA, Korea, Japan and Chinese Taipei constitute the largest proportion. They are 12, 11,12, 9 and 10 separately. Unlike the previous international qualifying tournament, this time, most golfers are making their first debuts, and they are relatively younger. 34 of them are born after 1990s,occupied 49% in total.
4 of the youngest players are all coming from South Korea. JUNG Woojin,KIM Beomsoo, CHUN Seunghee and LEE Jaewon are born in 1998, not only at their golden ages in life, but also in chasing their dreams. Speaking of the Korean Young Rises, this morning, the 21 year-old dark horse from Korea, KIM Siwoo stood out from all big names, won the trophy of the ‘fifth grand slam’-Players Championships at TPC Sawgrass. You can never underestimate them and their desires of making history.
Alvin Cheung, born in 1990, gained lots of experiences in China Tour. He turned pro in 2013. And From 2014, he started to take part in the Q-school tothe China Tour. However, he regretfully missed chances triple times from2014-2016, and was so close to the full cards and almost there. This year, he came back more prepared, more desired, aiming at one full card. “ I started to play golf at 11 years old and I like sports and competition. That’s why I made up mymind to be a professional golfer. I wish I could win more tournaments aspossible as I can.” Concise but powerful, that was the brief introduction of himself.
Have you got any impressions of the guy from Andorra, Kevin Esteve? He had a high chance of becoming a skiing star, but an injury obstructed him from the way to that dream at his 24 years old. Yet, as the old saying goes, the Lord closes one door, somewhere else he opens a window. At least he was not abandoned, he soon figured out his potential in golf. He came to China last year, attended 3 tournaments via Monday Qualifiers. Now, his ambition is to keep a full card in his pocket and play the calendar year events. Will hisdream come true? 2017 China Tour is the only men’s professional golf tournament series hosted by the Multi-bal lAdministration of the General Administration of National Sports and China Golf Association. It embraces players from all over the world. It has no less than 12 tournaments in total, with no less than 200 thousand dollars of prize award each event. China Olympic Sports Industry will be the promotor and an unifiedmembership system and order of merit are set up. Pathways to international golf events such as European Tour and Asian Tour are built for the top players on the tour.
