Kunming, Yunnan Province. The first China Tour International Qualifying Tournament will officially start tomorrow at OCT Kunming Wind Valley Golf Club. 49 players from 16 countries and territories are ready to compete for the season's 15 full exemption cards.
OCT Kunming Wind Valley Golf Course is in great shape at the beginning of summer. ”The weather is perfect, good for golf,” said Californian Benjamin Krug, who also speaks Chinese fluently. Last year Krug did not earn his full card from International Qualifying Tournament, but made his way into 5 tournaments through the Monday Qualifiers with best finish of T12 at Putian Open last year.
The majority of players for this week come from Chinese Taipei, US and Korea. LIU Yujui, LIN Kuanpo and TSENG Hongsheng from Chinese Taipei have played the China Tour for several years, and now they would like to come back and compete for some victories. ”Korea Team” plays an important role at the China Tour as usual. Todd Bae, Jeunghun Wang, and Taewoo Kim are successful graduates from The China Tour, and they have secured their fields at the European Tour and some other tours. RYU Jaehyeon, who was born in 1996, is following their footprints.
Cristiano TERRAGNI was the only one player from Italy last season which he played 12 tournaments with best finish tied 4th at Cadillac Championship. His success at the China Tour encourages 3 young Italians to compete in China this week. They are Patrick ACTIS, Giorgio DEFILIPPI and Rocco SANJUST.
However, they are not the only main roles on the stage. Strong competitors from Australia(3), Poland(1), Canada(3),Malaysia(3), Japan(3), Switzerland(1), Spain(2), Singapore(1), New Zealand(1), Indonesia(1), England(2), Hong Kong(1) are eyeing for the cards and will not let it slip out of their hands.
Diversity, friendship, drive and enthusiasm highlights the features of the China Tour as an influential golf event warmly embracing top golfers all around the world. Moreover, it is an significant pathway to get promoted to higher-level tours. Thus, this is more than a single qualifying tournament in China but a window of opportunity for these players to step closer to their dreams.
The Wind Valley Club features two outstanding golf courses, designed by 18-time MajorChampion Jack Nicklaus, and his son, Jack Nicklaus II. Both coursesfeature magnificent long views of Yangzonghai Lake, and are very grand inscale. Many holes are built on hilltops and through valleys of colorful flowersand native landscape.
